A Supportive Path Forward

Logo

Dane County Community Court is a post-charge post-plea diversion program that serves adults ages 17-35 who are facing non-violent criminal charges in Dane County, WI.

Community courts are nontraditional court programs that bring together the justice system and the community to address local challenges. In Dane County, restorative justice options have been developed primarily for pre-charge participants facing misdemeanor offenses. After reviewing county data, local stakeholders and community members identified the need for a new, more holistic approach—one that would reach and benefit a broader population of residents facing criminal charges.

Rather than relying solely on punishment, Community Court works to understand the underlying factors that contribute to justice involvement and connects participants to services that promote opportunity, stability, and healing. Through collaboration, restorative practices, and structured support, the program seeks to improve outcomes for participants, enhance community safety, and strengthen trust and outcomes in the justice system.

Ready for a Different Outcome? Successful completion of Community Court will result in reduced or dismissed charges.
